From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

The dahu is an lizard-like creature in Basque mythology, but there are also books that depict it as fox-like or chamois-like. The dahu is thought to have extended from the Pyrenees to the Alps since tales of the dahu are also heard in French and Swiss alpine regions.
The shy animal is said to live in the mountains and its defining characteristic is that it has two legs shorter on one side than on the other side, thus being well adapted for walking on mountain slopes. For this reason it was said that to hunt a dahu, one had to whistle to catch its attention. When turning around, its imbalanced legs would cause it to fall down the mountain.
