Japanese Rice Paste

this is an excellant paste for mending book pages. cut a piece of white tissue paper the size and shape of the tear. spread paste over the tissue and place over tear. it will be transparent when it dries!

3/4 cup rice flour ( check health food store if not at your grocer)
2 tablespoons sugar
3/4 cup cold water
2 1/2 cups boiling water
1/2 teaspoon oil of cinnamon*

mix rice flour, sugar and cold water in a medium size pan. stir until smooth.
add boiling water.
bring to a boil over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens
remove from heat and add oil of cinnamon

if stored in a tightly sealed jar, this paste will keep for5 several months.
also great for tissue paper collages or scrapbooks. spread with a brush.

* if you can't find oil of cinnamon, substitute lemon extract, listerine, alum powder, or oil of cloves as the preservative.
